Happy Earth Day 2008!

Happy Earth Day! Are you green? What are you doing to celebrate? Earth Day is a time to evaluate what we are doing in our lives to accelerate environmental progress. Sure, we can depend on our government to do its part and other countries, too. But, not every country has green on its mind. So, as the saying goes, it starts at home.
Here are some simple ways you can be green around the house:
  • Replace incandescent bulbs with compact florescent bulbs. (Typically 60-75 watt bulbs can be replaced with bulbs using about 18 watts or less.)
  • Buy a programmable thermostat that can be set to "off" or a more economical setting during the day, and have it start up 20 minutes before you get home.
  • Add insulation to your attic.
  • Lower the setting on your water heater if your hot water is over 120 degrees.
  • Recycle!

You can also attend one of these free concerts to celebrate Earth Day with art, music, and educational programs. Green Apple Festival 2008 sounds like a great way to enjoy green.

If you're a baseball fan, be sure to check out the first green baseball stadium in the United States, Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. It is accredited as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System certified ballpark.

And finally, before you leave here, sign the petition to tell Congress that the sky belongs to us. Let your voices be heard!
